Gimme Shelter 2009 Fundraiser A Success!

Organiser’s for this year’s Gimme Shelter fundraiser were hoping for a strong turn out, but we didn’t expect the public support for the second Gimme Shelter gig held on the 21st February 2009. A crowd of just under 2,200 turned up to not only enjoy the immense talents of The Domniks, Mo Wilson & The Drivers, Kavisha, Dream State Circus and John Butler, but to support St Patrick’s. The obvious highlight was John Butler, who invited an array of special guest’s up on stage to help him out; but for my money, the combined Star Light Hotel and Spirit Of The Street Choir’s was truly amazing and really impressed the already large crowd who had got in early to claim a spot on the exquisite South Lawn at the Fremantle Art Centre.
A big thank you to the artists who donated their time for the event, Walyup elder Marie Taylor for the welcome to country ceremony, the Fremantle business community who got behind the event, The Fremantle Herald and RTR FM or their tremendous media support, The Fremantle Art Centre for supplying a venue that is truly spectacular, and to Dave Johnson and Phoebe Corke for going above the call of duty to put on a cracker of a show!
