ST. PATRICK'S JOINS THE FESTIVAL PARADE 2008!

As part of the Fremantle Festival, 2008, St. Patrick's Community Support Centre joined the Festival Parade with their float "The Whale's Tale".  Created by the Centre's Art Group, this was our first entry into this colourful community event.  Pia Sweeting, the Art Group Co-ordinator, describes the meaning behind the float as follows:

"The float itself represents homelessness on many different levels: from an individual perspective in Fremantle to a reflection of a global trend of economic hardship and displacement though global warming.  "The Whale's Tale" is a symbol of hope and transformation as the humpback whale slowly recovers and reclaims its home ... the sea. The goddess represents compassion as she rescues humanity from its demise.  She is the symbol of the community of St. Patrick's representing the people who work to help the homeless and also the homeless themselves who have created their own community and support."

Many thanks to Pia, staff and clients for your inspiration and hard work.
