Reclink 20 / 20 Cricket dazzles Fremantle. We couldn’t have asked for a better way to kick off the first of many Reclink sponsored sport and recreational activities here in Fremantle W.A. The sun was shining (perhaps a little too brightly for some), the sky was a vivid blue, umpires and scorers were ready, and the players from St Bartholomew’s and St Patrick’s were champing at the bit to get out on the park and play some 20 / 20 cricket. St Bart’s won the toss and sent St Pats out to bat. Some great bowling and fielding by the boys from St Bart’s tied the St Pats batsmen down at times, but they eventually went on to amass a respectable score of 111. After a quick lunch break it was St Bart’s turn to bat; with determination etched on their faces, they strode out to the wicket knowing that they required 112 runs to win the match. It was a tough battle indeed, but St Pat’s held their nerve when the pressure was on and bowled St Bart’s out for 75. Besides the great cricket skills shown by the players on both sides (some of these guys were hitting the ball so far it would make the Australian cricket team green with envy), there some other qualities on display during the game that money could not buy. There were people who were playing cricket for the first time and the amount of genuine encouragement given to these players by the more experienced players from both teams was fantastic. Team spirit was apparent from both sides, and most importantly, the respect shown towards one another was exceptional. A big thank you to Reclink for getting behind this event by supplying both St Pat’s and St Bart’s with team shirts, Reclink caps and the cricket kit, players from both sides were over the moon with what was provided and wore their team shirts with pride. Both the St Bart’s and St Pat’s teams are very keen to lock horns once again, and will get together hopefully in February to play a best of three game series. Stay tuned for more details......Howzat!
